Sadly another case of animal cruelty in North Staffordshire has hit the headlines when a dog was suffocated with a plastic bag after being starved. The full story can be found at http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Blythe-Bridge-mum-jailed-suffocating-family-dog/story-18011125-detail/story.html?ito=email_newsletter_thisisstaffordshire
In December alone the Inspectors received 491 calls of which about a quarter involved cats and dogs, and another quarter, horses.
Staffordshire North Branch RSPCA is an independent charity created to find homes for animals that have suffered neglect, abuse, accident etc and normally brought to us by the RSPCA Inspectors. We helped 462 animals find new homes last year.

Poisoning of cats
Whether it was a deliberate act or not, the article in the sentinel http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Family-left-devastated-pet-cat-killed-poison/story-17971134-detail/story.html?ito=email_newsletter_thisisstaffordshire reveals the sad truth that there are people about who will deliberately put out anti freeze to poison cats. Cats like its taste but the amount of suffering it causes them is incalculable and as the article tells us, it also devastates families and can be traumatic for children to witness. If anyone knows of someone who will put out anitfreeze delibertaley to harm animals please either inform the Police or the RSPCA.
Thank you

Volunteer Morning
We do not let weather defeat us at Staffordshire North. It is our volunteer morning at M Club Spa (formerly Esporta) on 19 January. Despite the snow warnings we shall be there. If M Club itself opens then we can get there. Perhaps not so many of us but provided it is safe for you to do so, you will be welcome to come and talk to us and hopefully volunteer.

Youth Jailed for shooting ducks.
On 23 October we posted a story about ducks being shot at on the Caldon Canal. Well the culprit has been found and prosecuted and received an 8 week sentence as a result. The full story can be found in the Sentinel, 11 January or by viewing
http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Ball-Green-yob-Michael-Prince-jailed-shooting-18/story-17827023-detail/story.html?ito=email_newsletter_thisisstaffordshire
Although the article refers to the canal as Trent and Mersey, Milton is on the Caldon Canal so refers to the above incident I suspect.
People are urged to come forward and report anyone to the Police or the RSPCA ( 0300 1234 999) if they suspect of shooting at animals with air guns or rifles.

Happy Tale for New Year
We adopted Jet back in January, she is called Betty now. When we first got her she was very timid, and it took a while for her to settle in; you wouldn’t think she is the same dog now. She is very happy and settled, friends comment on how well she is doing.
I also take her training and she is such a good girl, (she won 3rd prize in obedience and 1st prize for prettiest girl dog). She is very loving and loves her cuddles and walks. She has a set of dog friends who she loves running around with and playing where I take her walking in the morning and at weekends.
She is getting better at going in the car - she seems to have a phobia but is getting better, and we have taken her to Lyme Park a couple of times. We can’t imagine life without her now as we love her so much. She is good company for Jim who works from home and she is there at the window when she knows I am due home from work and its lovely to come home to her.
